Lavant Parish Council provides an important link between the residents of the village and the District and County Councils and also with the South Downs National Park Association. Without the Parish Council, matters such as planning and village maintenance would return to Chichester District Council and we would have no influence whatsoever in decisions that affect the village. The Parish Council is currently comprised of seven village residents who are a very friendly group, with a wide and diverse range of skills and interests, and most importantly we enjoy each other's company and derive a great deal of satisfaction from working together as a team. The councillors give their time voluntarily, but we also have the services of an excellent Clerk who is the sole paid employee of the council.
Lavant Parish Council has vacancies for two councillors at present and we really need two more councillors to join with us in this rewarding and creative work and to help us preserve some influence over local decisions. The responsibilities are not onerous, usually an hour or two a week and a monthly meeting that rarely exceeds 90 minutes.
I would be very happy to explain the role to anyone who feels they might be able to spare a few hours a week in support of their local community. Please feel free to call or email me to discuss this further.
Tim Aldridge.
Chairman, Lavant Parish Council.
